Banco Espirito Santo SA (BES) is a Portugal-based commercial bank. The Bank organizes its business into six operational segments: National Commercial Banking, International Commercial Banking, Investment Banking, Asset Management, Markets and Strategic Investments and Corporate Centre. Together with its subsidiaries, the Bank provides a range of financial products and services, including credit and debit cards, savings accounts, asset management, loans, investment banking and brokerage, as well as life and non-life insurance products. The Bank and its subsidiaries operate in Portugal, Spain, Brazil, Angola, Cape Verde, United Kingdom, France, the United States, Macao and Poland, among others. As of December 31, 2011, the Bank had a number of subsidiaries, including BES Finance, BES Oriente, BESI, BIC International Bank, Avistar, ES Tech Ventures and BES Beteiligungs GmbH, among others. On May 11, 2012, it completed the acquisition of BES Vida - Companhia de Seguros SA.
