Fomento Económico Mexicano, S.A.B. de C.V. (FEMSA) is a holding company. The Company conducts its operations, through three sub-holding companies: Coca-Cola FEMSA, .A.B. de C.V. and subsidiaries (Coca-Cola FEMSA), which is engaged in the production, distribution and marketing of certain Coca-Cola trademark beverages in Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil and Argentina.; FEMSA Cerveza, S.A. de C.V. and subsidiaries (FEMSA Cerveza), which is engaged in the production, distribution and marketing of beer, and FEMSA Comercio, S.A. de C.V. and subsidiaries (FEMSA Comercio) which is engaged in operating a chain of convenience stores under the trade name OXXO. In May 2008, Coca-Cola FEMSA completed the acquisition of REMIL in Brazil. As of December 31, 2008, FEMSA Cerveza serves approximately 340,000 retailers in Mexico and its distribution network operates approximately 2,307 retail distribution routes.
