Description

Green Plains Renewable Energy, Inc. (Green Plains) is vertically integrated producer, marketer and distributer of ethanol. Green Plains operates in four segments: ethanol production, corn oil production, agribusiness and marketing and distribution segment. As of December 31, 2011, it had operations throughout the ethanol value chain, beginning upstream with its agronomy and grain handling operations, continuing through its approximately 740 million gallons per year, of ethanol production capacity and its corn oil production, and ending downstream with its ethanol marketing, distribution and blending facilities. In June 2011, the Company acquired two million bushels of grain storage capacity located in Hopkins, Missouri. In January 2012, it acquired 1.9 million bushels of grain storage capacity located in St. Edward, Nebraska. In December 2012, the Company sold 12 grain elevators located in northwestern Iowa and western Tennessee to The Andersons Inc.
