HCC Insurance Holdings, Inc. provides specialized property and casualty, surety, and group life, accident and health insurance coverages and related agency, and reinsurance brokerage services to commercial customers and individuals. The Company operates primarily in the United States, the United Kingdom, Spain, Bermuda and Ireland. It underwrites on both direct basis, where it insures a risk in exchange for a premium, and on a reinsurance (assumed) basis, where it insures all or a portion of another, or ceding, insurance company’s risk in exchange for all, or a portion of the ceding insurance company’s premium for the risk. The Company’s subsidiaries include G.B. Kenrick & Associates, Inc., Health Products Division of Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America. During the year ended December 31, 2008, it acquired MultiNational Underwriters, LLC, Criminal Justice division of U.S. Risk Insurance Brokers and Surety Company.
