John Hancock Tax-Advantaged Dividend Income Fund (the Fund) is a diversified, closed-end management investment company. The Fund’s investment objective is to provide a high level of after-tax total return from dividend income and capital appreciation. The Fund will invest at least 80% of its assets (net assets plus borrowings for investment purposes) in dividend-paying common and preferred securities that the adviser believes at the time of acquisition are eligible to pay dividends, which, for individual shareholders, qualify for the United States federal income taxation at rates applicable to long-term capital gains. It invests in sectors, such as multi-utilities, electric utilities, diversified financial services, gas utilities, integrated oil and gas, investment banking and brokerage, insurance and diversified banks. The Fund’s investment advisor is John Hancock Advisers, LLC a wholly owned indirect subsidiary of Manulife Financial Corporation (MFC).
