John Hancock Tax-Advantaged Global Shareholder Yield Fund (the Fund) is a diversified, closed-end management investment company. The Fund’s investment objective is to provide a high level of total return consisting of a high level of current income and gains and long-term capital appreciation. The Fund will invest at least 80% of its total assets in a diversified portfolio of dividend-paying stocks of issuers located worldwide. The Fund also seeks to write call options on a variety of both United Stated and non-United States broad-based indices. It may purchase and sell put and call options on securities (whether or not it holds the securities in its portfolio). The Fund’s investment advisor is John Hancock Advisers, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of John Hancock Financial Services, Inc. Its sub-advisors are Epoch Investment Partners, Inc. and Analytic Investors, Inc.
