Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama (HMMA) speaks Korean with a Southern drawl. A subsidiary of South Korea's Hyundai Motor, HMMA began construction of its plant in 2002. The $1.4 billion facility -- Hyundai's first North American auto plant and its most technically advanced -- turned out its first car, the Sonata sedan, in 2005 and now also produces the Elantra. The factory includes a stamping facility, paint shop, vehicle assembly shop, and a two-mile testing track. HMMA has an annual capacity of more than 361,340 vehicles. They are distributed throughout the US by sister company Hyundai Motor America and exported to Canada and Puerto Rico.
