Shipbuilder John T. Mather envisioned a legacy that would keep his community of Port Jefferson in good health, and John T. Mather Memorial Hospital came to fruition in 1929, one year after it's namesake's death. The not-for-profit hospital has some 250 beds and provides a variety of health care services to the residents of Port Jefferson, New York, and surrounding areas of Suffolk County. Services include emergency care, occupational therapy, psychiatry, and radiology. Mather Hospital is a member of Long Island Health Network, an association of about a dozen affiliated hospitals all serving Long Island. It is also Magnet� recognized hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
