Description

Mid-America Apartment Communities, Inc. is a self-administered and self-managed real estate investment trust (REIT), which focuses on acquiring, owning and operating apartment communities in the Sunbelt region of the United States. As of December 31, 2008, the Company owned 100% of 143 properties representing 41,928 apartment units, and had a 33.33% ownership interest in Mid-America Multifamily Fund I, LLC (Fund I), which owned 2 properties containing 626 apartment units. Mid-America’s business is conducted principally through Mid-America Apartments, L.P. (operating partnership). Mid-America’s wholly-owned qualified REIT subsidiary, MAC II of Delaware, Inc. is a limited partner in the operating partnership. During 2008, 100% owned properties purchased include Cascade at Fall Creek, Providence at Brier Creek, The Edge at Lyon's Gate, The Sanctuary at Oglethorpe and Village Oaks. The properties with 33.3% ownership include Milstead Village and Greenwood Forest.
