MDS Inc. (MDS) is a life sciences company that provides products and services to its customers for the development of drugs and the diagnosis and treatment of disease. The Company is a provider of pharmaceutical research services, medical isotopes for molecular imaging, sterilization, radiotherapeutics and analytical instruments. MDS operates in three business units within the life sciences industry: MDS Pharma Services, MDS Nordion and MDS Analytical Technologies. In June 2008, the Company acquired Blueshift Biotechnologies, Inc., a developer of screening platforms for life sciences research. On May 1, 2008 MDS Nordion sold its external beam therapy and self-contained irradiator product lines to Best Medical International Inc. In July 2009, the Company completed the divestiture of its MDS Pharma Services Phase II-IV operations to INC Research, Inc. In November 2009, the Company completed the divestiture of its Central Labs operations to Czura Thornton.
