Millicom International Cellular S.A. (Millicom) is a global mobile telecommunications operator. The Company has interests in 16 mobile operations in 16 countries, focusing on emerging markets in Central America, South America, Africa and Asia. As of December 31, 2008, the countries, where the Company had mobile operations had a combined population of approximately 294 million. Its total number of subscribers reached 32 million (28 million on an attributable basis) as of December 31, 2008. The description of its mobile operations is divided into five regions: Central America, South America, Africa, Asia and Amnet. On October 1, 2008, the Company acquired Amnet Telecommunications Holding Limited (together with its subsidiaries Amnet or Amnet Group). Millicom's operation in Sierra Leone, Millicom Sierra Leone Limited has been classified as a discontinued operation as of December 31, 2008. In October 2009, the Company announced the sale of Tigo (Private) Limited, its Sri Lanka operation.
