Ballard Power Systems Inc. (Ballard) is engaged in proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell development and commercialization. The Company’s principal business is the design, development, manufacture, sale and service of fuel cell products for a variety of applications, focusing on motive power (material handling and buses) and stationary power (back-up power and residential cogeneration). The Company operates in three segments: Power Generation, Automotive and Material Products. The Company has research, development, testing and manufacturing facilities in Burnaby, British Columbia. The Company also participates in a joint venture, EBARA BALLARD Corporation (EBARA BALLARD), in Tokyo, Japan. On January 31, 2008, the Company completed the sale of its automotive fuel cell research and development assets to Daimler AG (Daimler), Ford Motor Company (Ford) and AFCC Automotive Fuel Cell Cooperation Corp. (AFCC).
