Rofin-Sinar Technologies Inc. (Rofin) is engaged in designing, development, engineering, manufacturing and marketing of laser-based products, primarily used for cutting, welding and marking a range of materials. The Company provides a range of laser sources and laser-based system solutions to three principal target markets: the machine tool, automotive, and the semiconductor and electronics industries. The Company sells directly to end-users and to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) (principally in the machine tool industry) that integrate Rofin’s laser sources with other system components. During fiscal year ended September 30, 2008, 25% of the Company’s sales were in North America, 51% was in Europe and 24% was in Asia. Effective January 24, 2008, the Company acquired Nufern, one of the independent manufacturers of specialty fibers and fiber laser modules.
