Connecticut Water Service, Inc. is a non-operating holding company. The Company operates in three segments: Water Activities, Real Estate Transactions and Services and Rentals. As of December 31, 2011, Connecticut Water supplied water to 90,023 customers, representing a population of over 300,000, in 55 towns throughout Connecticut. The two active companies are Chester Realty, Inc., a real estate company in Connecticut; and New England Water Utility Services, Inc. (NEWUS), which provides contract water and sewer operations and other water related services. Its system, in total, consists of approximately 1,600 miles of water main and reservoir storage capacity of seven billion gallons. In May 2012, the Company�s subsidiary, Connecticut Water Company sold 178 acres of open space land, including a 39 acre former reservoir, to the Town of Plymouth, Connecticut. In December 2012, the Company acquired the Biddeford and Saco Water Company (BSWC).
