GeoMet, Inc. is primarily engaged in the exploration for and development and production of natural gas from coal seams. The Company�s core areas of operations are in the Central Appalachian Basin of Virginia and West Virginia. The Central Appalachian Basin is a mountainous region where coal mining is prevalent. The Company is the operator of 298 producing vertical coalbed methane (CBM), wells in which it owns a 99.0% average working interest in the Pond Creek and Lasher fields located in southern West Virginia and southwestern Virginia. As of December 31, 2013, approximately 91% of its estimated proved developed reserves, or 92.5 billion cubic feet, is in the Pond Creek field. In May 2014, the Company sold substantially all of coalbed methane interests and other assets located in the Appalachian Basin in McDowell, Harrison, Wyoming, Raleigh, Barbour and Taylor Counties, West Virginia and Buchanan County, Virginia.
