GeoMet, Inc., is an independent energy company primarily engaged in the exploration for and development and production of natural gas from coal seams (coalbed methane or CBM) and non-conventional shallow gas. The Company�s principal operations and producing properties are located in the Cahaba and Black Warrior Basins in Alabama and the central Appalachian Basin in Virginia and West Virginia. As of December 31, 2011, the Company owned a total of approximately 195,000 net acres of coalbed methane and oil and gas development rights. On November 18, 2011, the Company completed the purchase from Vitruvian Exploration LLC of developed and undeveloped CBM reserves and undeveloped leasehold acreage in Alabama and West Virginia, as well as certain natural gas derivative contracts, and a license to use a certain drilling technology.
