Green Plains Renewable Energy, Inc. (Green Plains) is vertically integrated producer, marketer and distributer of ethanol. Green Plains operates in four segments: ethanol production, corn oil production, agribusiness and marketing and distribution segment. As of December 31, 2011, it had operations throughout the ethanol value chain, beginning upstream with its agronomy and grain handling operations, continuing through its approximately 740 million gallons per year, of ethanol production capacity and its corn oil production, and ending downstream with its ethanol marketing, distribution and blending facilities. In March 2011, it acquired an ethanol plant from Otter Tail Ag Enterprises, LLC. On July 19, 2011, it acquired the remaining 49% interest in BlendStar LLC. In June 2011, it acquired two million bushels of grain storage capacity located in Hopkins, Missouri. In January 2012, it acquired 1.9 million bushels of grain storage capacity located in St. Edward, Nebraska.
