New York Mortgage Trust, Inc. (NYMT) together with its consolidated subsidiaries is a self-advised real estate investment trust (REIT). The Company invests primarily in real estate-related assets, including residential adjustable-rate mortgage-backed securities, which includes collateralized mortgage obligation floating rate securities (RMBS), and prime credit quality residential adjustable-rate mortgage (ARM) loans (prime ARM loans), and to a lesser extent, in certain alternative real estate-related and financial assets. As of December 31, 2008, its investment portfolio included approximately $197.7 million of collateralized mortgage obligation floating rate securities issued by the Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae), or the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie Mac).
