Rand Logistics, Inc. (Rand) is a shipping company engaged in operation of bulk carriers on the Great Lakes. The Company through its subsidiary, Lower Lakes Towing Ltd. (Lower Lakes Towing), provides bulk freight shipping services throughout the Great Lakes region and operated eight vessels (the Core Vessels). Its shipping business is operated in Canada by Lower Lakes Towing and in the United States by Lower Lakes Transportation Company (Lower Lakes Transportation). Lower Lakes Towing provides marine transportation services to dry bulk goods suppliers and purchasers operating in ports in the Great Lakes. Lower Lakes services construction, electric utility and integrated steel industries through transportation of limestone, coal, grain and other dry bulk commodities. In February 2011, it acquired two Jones Act compliant, self-unloading integrated tug/barge units from KK Integrated Shipping. In December 2011, it acquired a Jones Act compliant, self-unloading articulated tug/barge unit.
