Description
Spartan Stores, Inc. is a regional grocery distributor and grocery retailer, operating principally in Michigan and Indiana. The Company operates two segments: Distribution and Retail. The Company distributes a variety of products to approximately 375 independent grocery stores and operates 96 conventional supermarkets. The Company offers a variety of grocery products, general merchandise and health and beauty care, pharmacy, fuel and other items and services. During the fiscal year ended March 31, 2012, the Company markets and distributes over 3,900 private brand items, including its flagship Spartan brand, Spartan Fresh Selections, Top Care, a health and beauty care brand, Valu Time, a value brand, Full Circle, a natural and organic brand, and Paws, a pet supplies brand. Effective February 13, 2013, the Company acquired a grocery store.
