United Community Financial Corp. (United Community) is a unitary thrift holding company for The Home Savings and Loan Company of Youngstown, Ohio (Home Savings or the Bank). Home Savings is a state-chartered savings bank with 34 full-service branches and eight loan production offices located throughout Ohio and western Pennsylvania. The principal business of Home Savings is the origination of mortgage loans, including construction loans on residential and nonresidential real estate located in Home Savings� primary market area, which consists of Ashland, Columbiana, Cuyahoga, Erie, Franklin, Geauga, Huron, Lake, Mahoning, Portage, Richland, Stark, Summit and Trumbull Counties in Ohio and Beaver County in Pennsylvania. In addition to real estate lending, Home Savings originates commercial loans and various types of consumer loans. On December 16, 2011, it announced the sale of Home Savings four western-most branches to Croghan Colonial Bank, a subsidiary of Croghan Bancshares, Inc.
