Description

Horsehead Holding Corp. (Horsehead) is a producer of zinc and nickel-based products sold primarily to customers throughout the United States and Canada. The Company has production and/or recycling operations at six facilities located in four states in the United States. Horsehead is also a recycler of hazardous and non-hazardous waste for the specialty steel industry. Its products are used in a variety of applications, including in the galvanizing of fabricated steel products, as components in rubber tires, alkaline batteries, paint, chemicals and pharmaceuticals and as a remelt alloy in the production of stainless steel. It operates in two segments: Zinc, and Nickel Products and Services. During the year ended December 31, 2011, the Company sold approximately 304 million pounds of zinc products and 20 million pounds of nickel-based products. On November 1, 2011, Horsehead acquired Zochem Inc. During 2011, Horsehead dissolved its Horsehead Materials Recycling, LLC subsidiary.
