NovaStar Financial, Inc. (NFI) and its subsidiaries holds non-conforming residential mortgage securities. The Company previously originated, purchased, securitized, sold, invested in and serviced residential nonconforming mortgage loans and mortgage backed securities. It retained, thorough the mortgage securities investment portfolio, interests in the nonconforming loans, originated and purchased, and through the servicing platform, serviced all of the loans in which it retained interests. Effective August 1, 2008, the Company acquired a 75% interest in StreetLinks National Appraisal Services LLC (StreetLinks), a residential mortgage appraisal company. The Company also acquired a majority interest in Advent Financial Services LLC.
