Description
Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) is an India-based steel making company. Its business segments include five integrated steel plants and three alloy steel plants, which are manufacturing units. SAIL�s principal products include flat products, long products, rails and pipes, including branded products such as SAIL-TMT & SAIL JYOTI. SAIL is the supplier to defence, atomic energy, power, infrastructure, heavy machinery, oil & gas and Railways etc. During the fiscal year ended March 31, 2012 (fiscal 2012), the Company�s main steel plants produced 97,000 tons of pig iron; 12,961,000 tons of crude steel, and 11,855,000 tons of saleable steel. During fiscal 2012, SAIL also produced 14.1 million tons of hot metal and 13.4 million tons of crude steel. As of April 1, 2012, SAIL had a network of 3138 dealers spread over 629 districts. During fiscal 2012, SAIL�s subsidiary, Maharashtra Elektrosmelt Ltd. (MEL), was amalgamated with SAIL and renamed as Chandrapur Ferro-alloy Plant (CFP).
