American Equity Investment Life Holding Company (American Equity)develops and sells index and fixed-rate annuity products. The Company is a full-service underwriter of fixed annuity and life insurance products through its wholly owned life insurance subsidiaries, American Equity Investment Life Insurance Company (American Equity Life) and American Equity Investment Life Insurance Company of New York. On September 17, 2008, the Company formed a wholly owned life insurance company, Eagle Life Insurance Company (Eagle Life). As of December 31, 2008, American Equity had license to sell its products in 50 states and the District of Columbia. The Company primarily markets index and fixed-rate annuities, and to a lesser extent, life insurance.
