ALC operates senior living residences that provide seniors with a supportive, home-like setting with care and services, including around-the-clock assistance with activities of daily living, medication management, life enrichment, health and wellness, and other services either directly from ALC employees or indirectly through wholly owned healthcare service subsidiaries. Its residences are purpose-built to meet the special needs of seniors and typically are located in targeted, middle-market suburban bedroom communities. In June 2012, Ventas, Inc. sold 12 seniors housing communities to ALC.
