Alabama Power Company is engaged in the generation, purchase, transmission, distribution and sale of electricity. The Company provides electricity and service to approximately 1.4 million homes, businesses and industries. The Company and Georgia Power each own 50% of the outstanding common stock of Southern Electric Generating Company (SEGCO). The Company provides electricity at retail in approximately 400 cities and towns, including Anniston, Birmingham, Gadsden, Mobile, Montgomery, and Tuscaloosa, as well as in rural areas, and at wholesale to 14 municipally-owned electric distribution systems, 11 of which are served indirectly through sales to Alabama Municipal Electric Authority, and two rural distributing cooperative associations. It sells and cooperates with dealers in promoting the sale of electric appliances and also engages in land management programs.
