Cloud Peak Energy Inc. is a holding company that manages its 100% owned subsidiary, Cloud Peak Energy Resources LLC (CPE Resources). The Company is a producer of coal in the United States of America and the Powder River basin (PRB). The Company operates in three segments: Owned and Operated Mines, Logistics and Related Activities, and Corporate and Other. The Owned and Operated Mines segment focuses on thermal coal production. The Logistics and Related Activities segment delivers coal to the customer at a terminal or the customer’s plant or other delivery point, remote from its mine site. The Corporate and Other segment includes results relating to broker activity, its share of the Decker mine operations. The Company operates in the PRB, where it operates three surface coal mines, which include the Antelope Mine, the Cordero Rojo Mine and the Spring Creek Mine. It also has two development projects, including the Youngs Creek project and the Crow project.
