Doral Financial Corporation is a bank holding company. Through its subsidiaries, the Company is engaged in retail banking activities in Puerto Rico and the United States. The Company has four wholly owned subsidiaries, which are Doral Bank, Doral Insurance Agency, LLC (Doral Insurance Agency), Doral Recovery, Inc. (Doral Recovery I) and Doral Properties, Inc. (Doral Properties). Doral Bank has three wholly owned subsidiaries, Doral Mortgage, LLC (Doral Mortgage), which is engaged in mortgage lending in Puerto Rico, Doral Money, Inc. (Doral Money), which is engaged in commercial lending in the United States, and Doral Recovery, LLC (Doral Recovery II). The Company operates in five segments: Puerto Rico Growth, United States, Recovery, Treasury and Corporate. Its consumer lending operations include residential mortgage lending and consumer loans. The Company has filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.
