Description

The Empire District Electric Company (EDE) incorporated on October 16, 1909, is an operating public utility engaged in the generation, purchase, transmission, distribution and sale of electricity in parts of Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. The Company operates in three segments: electric, gas and other. The Company�s wholly owned subsidiary, Empire District Gas Company (EDG) is engaged in the distribution of natural gas in Missouri. The territory served by its electric operations embraces an area of about 10,000 square miles, located principally in southwestern Missouri, and also includes smaller areas in southeastern Kansas, northeastern Oklahoma and northwestern Arkansas. As of December 31, 2012, the Company owned generating facilities with an aggregate generating capacity of 1,391 megawatts.
