Description

Health Care REIT, Inc. is a real estate investment trust (REIT). The Company�s portfolio of products includes seniors housing and health care real estate, including seniors housing communities, skilled nursing/post-acute facilities, medical office buildings, inpatient and outpatient medical centers and life science facilities. The Company operates in three business segments: seniors housing triple-net, seniors housing operating and medical facilities. Its hospitals and seniors housing triple-net properties are generally leased to operators under long-term operating leases. The leases generally have a fixed contractual term of 12 to 15 years and contain one or more 5 to 15years renewal options. At December 31, 2011, approximately 93% of its hospitals and seniors housing triple-net properties were subject to master leases. On April 1, 2011, the Company acquired Genesis HealthCare Corporation. In January 2013, the Company acquired Sunrise Senior Living, Inc. property portfolio.
