Midstates Petroleum Company, Inc. is an independent exploration and production company. The Company is focused on the application of modern drilling and completion techniques to oil/liquids-prone resources in hydrocarbon trends. It has two primary operating areas in the Gulf Coast and the Mid Continent Regions. It targets the Upper Gulf Coast Tertiary trend in Louisiana and the Mississippian Lime and Hunton trends in Oklahoma and Kansas. Its Oklahoma operations include approximately 82,000 net acres in the Mississippian Lime trend, with about 76,000 net acres in Woods and Alfalfa Counties in Northwest Oklahoma and 6,000 net acres in Kansas. Its central Louisiana operations are focused on the Wilcox formation, drilling vertical and horizontal wells and commingling production from hydraulically fractured completions across stacked oil-producing intervals.
