Navios Maritime Holdings Inc. (Navios Holdings) is a global, vertically integrated seaborne shipping and logistics company focused on the transport and transshipment of dry bulk commodities, including iron ore, coal and grain. It has two business segments: Vessel Operations and Logistics Business. As of December 31, 2008, Navios Holdings’ core fleet (excluding Navios South American Logistics Inc. (Navios Logistics)), consisted of a total of 53 vessels, aggregating approximately 5.1 million deadweight tons (dwt). As of December 31, 2008, Navios Holdings owned 12 Ultra Handymax, five Panamax, and one Product Handysize tanker vessels. It also time charters in and operates a fleet of six Ultra Handymax, two Handysize, 11 Panamax, and nine Capesize vessels under long-term time charters, 18 of which were in operation as of December 31, 2008, with the remaining 10 scheduled for delivery on various. In January 2008, the Company, through Navios Logistics, acquired Horamar Group.
