Penn West Petroleum Ltd. (Penn West) is a Canada-based exploration and production company. The Company operates a significant portfolio of opportunities with a dominant position in light oil in Canada. Its portfolio of properties as at December 31, 2013 includes both unitized and non-unitized oil and natural gas production. The majority of its proved plus probable reserves are located in Canada in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and the Northwest Territories. It also has minor proved plus probable reserves interests in the United States in Wyoming. The operations and expertise of its management are focused on oil and gas production, exploration and development in the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin. The Company�s production and reserves are attributed to approximately 160 producing properties. The Company�s major operating regions as of December 31, 2013 include Cardium Resource Play, Slave Point Resource Play and Viking Resource Play.
