RealD Inc. is a licensor of three dimensional (3D) technologies. The Company's property portfolio is used in applications that enable a 3D viewing experience in the theater, the home and elsewhere. The Company licenses its RealD Cinema Systems to motion picture exhibitors that show 3D motion pictures and alternative 3D content. The Company also provides its RealD Display, active and passive eyewear and RealD Format technologies to consumer electronics manufacturers and content providers to enable the delivery and viewing of 3D content. The Company has three operating segments: cinema, consumer electronics, and professional. In March 2012, the Company released Madam Butterfly 3D, a co-production with the Royal Opera House. During the fiscal year ended March 23, 2012 (fiscal 2012), the Company surpassed 20,000 3D-equipped cinema screens worldwide.
