Description

TransAlta Corporation (TransAlta), is engaged in the production and sale of electric energy. TransAlta is organized into three business segments: Generation, Energy Trading and Corporate. The Generation group segment is engaged in constructing, operating and maintaining its electricity generation facilities. The Energy Trading segment is responsible for the wholesale trading of electricity and other energy-related commodities and derivatives. The Corporate segment provides finance, tax, treasury, legal, regulatory, environmental, health and safety, sustainable development, corporate communications, government and investor relations, procurement, information technology, risk management, human resources, internal audit, and other administrative services, including compliance and governance services. In September 2012, it acquired Solomon power station. On September 28, 2012, the Company completed the acquisition from Fortescue Metals Group Ltd. (Fortescue).
