United Rentals, Inc. is a holding company. The Company primarily conducts its operations through its wholly owned subsidiary, United Rentals (North America), Inc., and its subsidiaries. The Company is an equipment rental company and its network consists of 836 rental locations in the United States and Canada. The Company operates in two segments: general rentals and trench safety, power and HVAC. The general rentals segment includes the rental of construction, aerial and industrial equipment, general tools and light equipment, and related services and activities. The trench safety, power and HVAC segment includes the rental of specialty construction products and related services. The trench safety, power and HVAC segment�s customers include construction companies involved in infrastructure projects, municipalities and industrial companies. This segment operates throughout the United States and in Canada. On April 30, 2012, the Company acquired RSC Holdings Inc.
