Aqua America, Inc. (Aqua America) is the holding company for regulated utilities providing water or wastewater services in Pennsylvania, Texas, North Carolina, Ohio, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Florida, Indiana, Virginia, Maine, and Georgia. As of December 31, 2011, Aqua Pennsylvania, Inc. provided water or wastewater services to approximately 50% of the total number of people served by the Company, and is located in the suburban areas in counties north and west of the City of Philadelphia and in 25 other counties in Pennsylvania. The Company's other subsidiaries provide services in 11 other states. On January 1, 2012, Aqua America sold its Maine operations to Connecticut Water Service, Inc. In April 2012, its subsidiary, Aqua Pennsylvania, Inc., acquired the assets of the Mifflin Township Water Authority. In May 2012, the Company purchased American Water Works Company, Inc.'s (American Water) Ohio Operations, and sold its New York Operations to American Water.
