Northern Oil and Gas, Inc. (Northern) is an energy company, engaged in the acquisition, exploration, development and production of crude oil and natural gas properties, primarily in the Bakken and Three Forks formations within the Williston Basin in North Dakota and Montana. Northern primarily engaged in crude oil and natural gas exploration and production by participating on a heads-up basis alongside third-party interests in wells drilled and completed in spacing units that include its acreage. The Company acquired approximately 43,239 net mineral acres, during the year ended December 31, 2011. In addition, Northern participated in the completion of 354 gross wells in the Bakken and Three Forks formations during 2011. During 2011, the Company had leases expire in Montana, New York and North Dakota covering approximately 26,428 net acres. In April 2011, the Company sold its interest in the Anvil project.
