Property/casualty insurer Nipponkoa Insurance was formed in April 2001 as a result of the merger between Nippon Fire & Marine and Koa Fire & Marine. Its products include personal accident, automobile and homeowners insurance as well as commercial liability and loss insurance. The company has offers some life insurance with retirement products and investment trust funds. Nipponkoa distributes its products through independent insurance agencies, car dealers, banks, and allied life insurance companies. In 2010 Nipponkoa formed a joint holding company with larger property/casualty insurer Sompo Japan Insurance. Working together as NKSJ Holdings they hope to better compete in their market.
