Working to reduce the cost of information, OCLC Online Computer Library Center is a membership cooperative that provides access to the world's information. The group offers services and tools to some 72,000 member libraries in about 170 countries. Services include computer-based cataloging, preservation, and library management. OCLC additionally facilitates interlibrary loan services, administers the Dewey Decimal Classification system, and operates the WorldCat database, an online resource for finding library materials. OCLC was founded in 1967 by presidents of the colleges and universities in Ohio. OCLC, which stands for Ohio College Library Center, opened its first location in Ohio State's main library.
