ARTISTdirect, Inc. (ARTISTdirect) is an Internet-based digital media entertainment company that operates in three segments: Internet piracy prevention (IPP), media and e-commerce. The IPP segment is operated by MediaDefender, Inc. MediaDefender’s suite of IPP solutions offer protection on major peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing networks. Media operations include content-oriented Websites, a network of third-party music sites and other marketing initiatives. E-commerce operations consist of the sale of recorded music and artist-related merchandise on its Websites. The Company's media segment and e-commerce segment accounted for 36% and 3% of its revenue during the year ended December 31, 2008. The IPP segment accounted for approximately 64% of the Company’s revenue during 2008. On March 30, 2009, the Company and its wholly owned subsidiary, MediaDefender purchased from SafeNet, Inc. and MediaSentry, Inc., substantially all the assets of the MediaSentry operating unit.
