Viral Genetics, Inc. discovers, develops and commercializes a series of proteins based primarily on thymus nuclear protein (TNP). The Company’s research interests are infectious diseases, such as human immunodeficiency virus/ acquired immune deficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS), autoimmune conditions and immunological deficiency. TNP is a processed extract of mammalian thymus tissue, from which Viral Genetics, Inc. isolated active components, two protein fragments or peptides. The principal product based on TNP is VGV-1, which is TNP suspended in alum adjuvant dosed through intramuscular injections. The Company has studied VGV-1 in five human clinical trials to examine for safety and efficacy as a treatment for HIV/AIDS. VGV-1 is in the preclinical stage of development in the United States of America, where it has yet to file an investigational new drug (IND) with the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), but has completed pre-IND correspondence.
