The State of Vermont Legislature help to develop good laws for a better society in the Northeast. Members of the House and Senate debate and vote on bills on a wide variety of issues. Committee topics include health care, education, commerce, and transportation. After a bill passes in both chambers, the legislature passes it on to the governor for approval; when a governor signs a bill, it becomes law. Legislation sessions run from January through April. The legislature has an annual budget of about $6 million.
