A big state needs a big school, and this one does the trick! The University of California (UC) system has some 238,700 undergraduate and graduate students at its 10 campuses (which include four law schools and five medical schools) located in Berkeley, Davis, Irvine, Los Angeles, Merced, Riverside, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, and Santa Cruz. The schools, with about 190,000 faculty and staff, offer areas of study in more than 150 disciplines ranging from the arts to bioengineering. It also offers more than 600 graduate degree programs. UC also operates several US Department of Energy research labs.
