Rex Energy Corporation is an independent oil and gas company operating in the Illinois Basin and the Appalachian Basin. The Company is an oil producer in the Illinois Basin, with an average production of 2,121 barrels of oil during the year ended December 31, 2008. In addition to its developmental shallow oil drilling in the Illinois Basin, the Company has implemented an oil recovery project (EOR), in the Lawrence Field in Lawrence County, Illinois. In the Appalachian Basin, the Company developed shallow natural gas drilling and exploratory drilling, including its Marcellus Shale drilling projects. During 2008, the Company commenced injection operations in its two alkali-surfactant-polymer pilot projects in the Lawrence Field. The Company drilled and completed 64 gross wells during 2008.
