Sovran Self Storage, Inc. (Sovran) is a self-administered and self-managed real estate investment trust (REIT) that acquires, owns and manages self-storage properties. As of February 15, 2009, the Company owned and managed 385 properties consisting of approximately 25 million net rentable square feet, situated in 24 states. Sovran’s facilities offer enclosed storage space to residential and commercial users on a month-to-month basis. The Company conducts business under the name Uncle Bob’s Self-Storage. As of December 31, 2008, Sovran’s properties included Alabama (22 stores), Arizona (nine), Connecticut (five), Colorado (four), Florida (57), Georgia (27), Kentucky (two), Louisiana (14), Maine (two), Maryland (four), Massachusetts (14), Michigan (six), Mississippi (12), Missouri (seven), New Hampshire (four), New York (28), North Carolina (15), Ohio (23), Pennsylvania (six), Rhode Island (four), South Carolina (eight), Tennessee (four), Texas (90) and Virginia (18).
