Sorrento Lactalis is far from lackadaisical when it comes to cheese. The company makes and sells a range of fresh and packaged mozzarella, ricotta, mascarpone, and cheese-snack products, including a handful of different types of string cheese. Tempting health conscious consumers, it also offers a line of omega-3-fortified string cheeses. The cheese lineup is sold under name brands, such as Sorrento, Sorrento Stringsters, and Precious. Sorrento's customers include US food retailers and foodservice operators. Founded in 1947 as the Sorrento Cheese Company, it has operated under French diary giant Groupe Lactalis since 1992. Sorrento and its sister company, Lactalis USA, are both headquartered in New York State.
