Major Drilling Group International Inc. (MDGI) is a Canada-based drilling service company primarily serving the mining industry. The Company specializes in four types of drilling for the mining industry: diamond drilling, reverse circulation drilling, directional drilling and combination drilling. Its operations are divided into three geographic segments: Canada – U.S.; South and Central America, and Australia, Asia and Africa. MDGI focuses on specialized drilling, such as surface or underground deep-hole drilling, directional drilling and drilling at high altitude. Specialized drilling contracts represented 70% of revenue during the fiscal year ended April 30, 2009 (fiscal 2009). Conventional surface drilling contracts represented 23% of revenue in fiscal 2009. Underground drilling contracts represented 7% of contracts in fiscal 2009. As of April 30, 2009, the Company had 535 drilling rigs. In August 2008, MDGI acquired the exploration drilling company, Forage a Diamant Benoit Ltee.
