Metro, Inc. is a food retailer and distributor in Quebec and Ontario, where it operates a network of 564 supermarkets under several banners, including Metro, Metro Plus, Super C and Food Basics, as well as 257 pharmacies, mainly under the Brunet, Pharmacy and Drug Basics banners. It operates under different banners in the traditional supermarket and discount segments. It operates 370 supermarkets under the Metro and Metro Plus banners. The 194 discount stores operating under the Super C and Food Basics banners offer products at low prices to consumers. It also acts as a distributor by providing small-surface food stores and convenience stores with banners. The Company also acts as franchisor and distributor for 179 franchised Brunet Plus, Brunet, Brunet Clinique, and Clini Plus drugstores, owned by independent pharmacists. In April 2012, its subsidiary, Metro Ontario Inc., acquired the pharmacy business, including prescription files, from seven Zellers pharmacies in Ontario.
